First off, I've been volunteering at a housing complex for people who are trying to get their act together and may have come from abusive situations, etc. I'm there to tutor their kids and yesterday was my first day. The child I was supposed to be working with wasn't there so I helped another child and it was quite fun. First we did homework and I helped him with whatever he needed helping with. I also ended up helping another older kid with their algebra. Thank goodness it wasn't much harder than graphing because that's about all I'm good at haha.
After homework, we went out and played. I went with my kid and his friend and his tutor and we played some soccer. That was so much fun. I had a blast. I am so sore today though. Maybe I shouldn't have said that I could do it on the same days that my dance classes were on. Oh well. I chalk it up to more exercise. :) So after we played soccer for a while, another tutor and her kid came up and wanted to play baseball so I suggested that to the kids and it was a lot of fun too. We played that for a while and then the boys got interested in something else so the rest of the time we watched them jump rope with two of the other kids. I have a feeling that I'm really going to look forward to Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Today was fun too. I went over to our neighbor's apartment and he has a 4 year old son who is one of the funniest and smartest 4 year olds I've ever met. The funniest part was when we were all eating macaroni and cheese and the kid spilled it on him. He kept saying that it was hot and then he said something that is still keeping me chuckling. He said that it was making him orange. I nearly died of laughter at that one. I'm still giggling about it. There were a lot of other really funny moments too, but that one was the funniest of the night.
Tomorrow is my second day at my service learning placement so we'll see if my kid shows up, but I heard that this particular placement isn't really consistent with only having one kid at a time and sometimes will have more than one kid which is fine with me. It will make the assignment a little more challenging, but I'm up for it.
